Memorial Scholarship Honors Civil Engineering Alumnus Gary Teague November 12, 2008 - Teague Nall and Perkins, Inc. has established an endowed scholarship fund for civil engineering students at The University of Texas at Arlington honoring Gary J. Teague, the firm’s founder, president and chairman of the board. Mr. Teague passed away in August 2008 after a taxing battle with brain cancer. Gary Teague graduated from Arlington State College (now UT Arlington) in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He was a registered Professional Engineer, a Registered Public Land Surveyor and a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). The Gary Teague Endowed Scholarship Fund will provide a one-year, $1,000 scholarship for a civil engineering student who graduated from a high school in the north central Texas area. “Our purpose in creating the permanent endowment was to establish a lasting tribute to our beloved friend and mentor,” said Mike Jones, vice president of Teague Nall and Perkins. “We believe that this is one of the best ways for us as a company to express our gratitude for Gary’s impact on our lives, this company and his profession. Gary enjoyed his ongoing relationship with his alma mater very much, taking advantage of every opportunity to get involved and interact with the students,” Mr. Teague had been a member of the Civil Engineering Department’s advisory board since 2003 and had advised students with their senior design projects. Gary Teague was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), the Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE) and the ASCE. He was honored several times by engineering societies during his career. In 1976, the Fort Worth Chapter of the TSPE named him their “Young Engineer of the Year.” The same organization honored him again in 1998, this time as the “Engineer of the Year.” “Gary was the consummate professional and a widely respected individual,” said Dr. Nur Yazdani, chair of the Civil Engineering Department. “He was one of the most fervent supporters of UT Arlington and the Civil Engineering Department. He was instrumental in the effective operation of our advisory board’s quest of bettering the department in terms of its accreditation, curriculum innovation and recruitment of students. He will be missed very much.” IN MEMORIAM: Gary J. Teague, P.E., RPLS, Teague Nall and Perkins, Inc.
